At Ridge Oral Surgery, we provide wisdom teeth removal to patients in Warren, NJ, and the surrounding community. Wisdom teeth removal is a routine procedure that helps you preserve your smile and avoid long-term complications. Our practice has a proven track record upholding patient comfort and safety, achieving optimal clinical outcomes.

What Are Wisdom Teeth?

The wisdom teeth, sometimes called third molars, are the last teeth to emerge, usually at some point in your teens or early twenties. The problem is that the jawbone is seldom large enough to accommodate these teeth, which can lead to a host of complications. The most effective way to avoid these complications is to remove your wisdom teeth as a preventative measure.

Why Get Your Wisdom Teeth Removed?

These third molars often become impacted since the jaw cannot comfortably fit wisdom teeth. In other words, they do not emerge like your other teeth do, but instead remain trapped under gum and bone.

Impaction can lead to a range of issues, including the formation of cysts. Wisdom teeth can also lead to chronic discomfort, they can throw off the aesthetics of your smile, and they can expose you to a heightened risk of oral infection. Again, these risks are best mitigated by having your wisdom teeth removed preemptively.

Our Process for Wisdom Teeth Removal

The initial step in your journey is having a consultation. Your oral surgeon will examine your teeth and gums, confirming your qualification for a safe, successful surgery. The procedure itself is performed with anesthesia, ensuring you remain comfortable throughout. Because anesthesia is used, you will need to arrange to have a ride home. The duration of the procedure can vary depending on how many wisdom teeth you are having removed, but most appointments take well under an hour.

Wisdom Teeth Removal Recovery and Timeline

After your procedure, you will be discharged to head home for rest and recovery. Most patients feel ready to resume their school and work activities within two or three days. During the first 48 hours, you can expect some swelling and discomfort, but over-the-counter medications can help mitigate your symptoms and ensure your comfort. Also, plan to stick with soft, bland foods and liquids for the first couple of days, gradually transitioning back to a normal diet. Most patients are back to eating normally within a week.
